The swearing-in ceremony of the newly admitted foreign students of the University of Szeged ended with a fun party on Thursday evening. The hundred of international students who appeared on Dugonics Square were greeted by Prof. Dr. Péter Zakar, SZTE's vice-rector for international and public relations, as well as the Deans of the faculties and the managers responsible for international relations. According to the university's long-standing tradition, foreign first-year students were awarded with the START scholarships to help start their studies at SZTE this year.
Ont he 5th of September, hundreds of international students of the University of Szeged gathered in front of the rector's office on Dugonics Square for the swearing-in of freshmen and first-year foreign students starting this year at SZTE. The swearing-in is traditionally the final event of the official orientation days organized to help and welcome foreign students. According to this year's data, 1,200 foreign students had the chance to enroll at the University of Szeged.
Before their oath, on behalf of SZTE, Prof. Dr. Péter Zakar, vice-rector for international and public relations, greeted the foreign first-year students.
- Today, you have become members of a truly diverse community, which places knowledge and development above all else. It fills us with pride that we have students from so many different countries, about 20 percent of our students come from abroad, from 130 different countries. Our university is internationally recognized among the top universities. According to the 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), the University of Szeged is the best university in Hungary and a member of excellent international networks, such as EUGLOH (the European University Alliance for Global Health). I am sure that the knowledge acquired here will open many different doors to many opportunities in your professional life and will greatly contribute to your personal development, too. Opposite the students, leading lecturers representing the faculties of the University of Szeged lined up to take the oath: Prof. Edit Mikó, dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of SZTE, Dr. Gábor Bodnár, representative for educational affairs of the dean of the Faculty of Economics of SZTE, Prof. Dr. Ferenc Peták , the SZTE Szent-Györgyi Albert Faculty of Medicine dean's representative responsible for enrollment in English-language training, Prof. Dr. Zoltán Baráth, the dean of the SZTE Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. József Sárosi, the dean of the SZTE Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ágnes Sávai-Matuska, the deputy dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of SZTE, Prof. Dr. Zsolt Szakonyi, the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of SZTE, Dr. András Döbör, the dean of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education of SZTE Gyula Juhász, Dr. Anikó Szalai, the dean of the Faculty of Government and Law of SZTE for international relations responsible delegate, Prof. Dr. Dezső Horváth, dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics of SZTE.
Dueing the ceremony, START scholarships were awarded to foreign students with the best results of each faculty to help them begin their studies. The scholarship was awarded to Arshia Amanlou (Iran) SZAOK, Sanzhar Kazakstan (Kazakhstan) TTIK, Laura Mkrtchyan (Armenia) GTK, Zanha Razik (India) FOK, Hugo Luarca Fernández (Spain) BBMK, Sevilay Celebi (Turkey) BTK, Mavy Amir Khairy Tawfeles Gress (Egypt) SZAOK, Reut Ben Ami (Israel) MGK and Beatrice Onoriode Ofowena (Nigeria) ÁJTK won.
