The Academic Ranking of World Universities 2020 (ARWU) or Shanghai Ranking has just been published. When setting up the list, several indicators are taken into consideration: among others, quality of education and of faculty, research output, total number of the alumni of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, per capita performance of more than 2,000 higher education institutions were examined; after the completion of the evaluation, 1,000 universities have been featured on the list.

The University of Szeged was ranked between the 601-700^th place on the Shanghai Ranking. Among Hungarian universities, the SZTE shares the first position with Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest.

On ARWU Rankings published in July, the University of Szeged was ranked between the 401-500^th place in Physics subject thus making the third best Physics instruction of the SZTE in Hungary. The institution was also ranked in terms of clinical medicine between the 401-500^th position, therefore the University of Szeged shares the second best ranking with the University of Pécs among Hungarian institutions.
