The University of Szeged is ranked among the best 200 universities in the world in the latest Times Higher Education ranking, which examined the higher education economy, social impact and responsibility of the institution. In the ranking which is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nation, SZTE is the best Hungarian institution with the ranking 101–200th place.
In the state of the national health emergency, declared to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) - in order to protect the citizens of foreign countries, legally residing in Hungary - the Government of Hungary in it’s Goverment Decree 85/2020. (5th of April) ordered the automatic prolongation of the documents entitling to reside in Hungary as follows.
The spread of COVID-19 in Europe, including Hungary as well, has urged the Government of Hungary to declare a state of emergency on the 11th of March and take all necessary precautions to protect the citizens of Hungary, minimize the number of infected people and slow down the spread of the coronavirus.
Besides national rankings focusing on student and teaching excellence, international rankings measuring academic activities are continuously classifying SZTE among the world’s prestigious universities. According to QS World University Rankings the SZTE is the best university in Hungary, and is among the world’s most elite universities in several subject rankings. On the national HVG ranking list, SZTE was listed the first in Hungary out of the capital.
Protective gears delivered from China were distributed to the University of Szeged. Surgical masks, protective coats, rapid tests were included in the consignment delivered by Waberer’s Ltd. on the 7th April 2020.
Protective gears necessary in preventing transmission of the coronavirus were distributed to the University of Szeged from the stocks of the National Healthcare Services Center on the 3rd April.

Between the 30th March and 1st April 2020, a virtual conference was held within the framework of the EUGLOH project. With regard to the COVID-19 outbreak, the annual meeting of the project was carried out exceptionally online.
A survey on voluntary services provided by the SZTE members is being conducted at the University of Szeged. Employees and students of the University are requested to submit their intention on voluntary services to be provided at Albert Szent-Györgyi Health Center in relation with tasks arising by virtue of the COVID-19 disease emergency.
