The University of Szeged provides PCR testing for its international students

In order to ensure the smooth start of the semester and to protect public health, the University of Szeged provides PCR tests for its international students.

We hereby inform all students of the University of Szeged that according to the decision of the University’s management, the university will provide two PCR tests on one occasion in the first semester of the 2020/21 academic year for international students and students from the transborder Hungarian communities - with obligatory quarantine - free of charge upon entering Hungary. The two PCR tests will provide exemption from mandatory quarantine.

We hereby point out that the test are guaranteed only one time for each student, therefore starting from 26 August 2020, no further free of charge tests will be provided for any student who may leave Hungary and is - upon return - required to spend two weeks in quarantine.

In order to ensure smooth entry and stay in Hungary, we still suggest to have two valid negative COVID-19 (PCR) tests upon entering the country to avoid the 14 days of mandatory quarantine to begin with.

We hereby inform you that according to the Hungarian legislations currently in force: ‘Surveillance due to the pandemic is not required if the student has undergone a molecular biological SARS-CoV-2 test in accordance with health professional rules within 5 days prior to entering Hungary, at least 48 hours apart and certifies with a Hungarian or English document that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was not detectable in their body at the time of the test, or if the student can credibly prove that they have already contracted the disease in the six months prior to entry.’

Those students who enter Hungary and arrive few days later than the start of their studies due to process of undergoing the tests will not face any consequences.

For international students and students from the transborder Hungarian communities, who are not provided with housing during the quarantine period, the University provides quarantine dormitory accommodation in the following locations:

• For medical students: Apáthy Dormitory (Szeged, Apáthy István utca 4.)

• For non-medical students: SZTE Öthalmi Student Apartments (Szeged, Budapesti út 7.)

We would like to draw it into your attention that required quarantine can be spent in rented accommodation.

Sampling necessary to produce PCR tests will be performed in designated quarantine dormitories in the morning hours. Residents of private dwelling will be requested to show up for sampling in Apáthy dormitory; the facility shall be accessed on foot – without using public transportation – and wearing a mask. For residents of private dwelling, an online pre-registration will be required in order to make the sampling. We will send you the link of the online registration platform soon.

Applications of quarantine exemption shall be submitted upon sampling to National Public Health Center signed by the student. Necessary application forms are provided by the University.

Please note that PCR testing is only available free of charge in case it is performed by the University of Szeged.

In order to get exempted from quarantine, students are expected to have two negative COVID test results, performed consecutively of each other within 48 hours. Students arriving from countries with yellow status might leave their designated quarantine location after having produced one negative COVID test result, while students arriving from countries with red status are requested to submit two negative results, therefore they will only be released from quarantine if they have produced two negative tests.
